HYMN: The Earth, Our Home

IMAGE DESCRIPTION: An image of a lyre is featured based on modern reconstructions of an ancient instrument known as the "kinnor" - the kind of lyre that King David used. Halway framing the kinnor is a question mark. This image is for the alternative psalms that I wrote and posted on my blog (virtualstoa.org). Unlike the traditional psalms which pretty much require religious belief for you to use them -- these psalms (the Non-Theistic psalms) impose no such requirement at all for their use.

Sung to the tune named New Britain – which is the same tune that traditionally, Amazing Grace is sung to.
The Earth, our home among the stars
Around our yellow sun,
Where once far deep breath the waves
The earliest life begun.

And from the day that life first lived
Our home was forever changed.
The chemistry of our deep seas
transformed with gas exchanged.
Through many random changes to
The recipe for life
Only the ones that fit their world
Were the ones which thus survived.
The first on land from ocean depths
The plants, they paved our way.
They changed the air that then they found
To what we breathe today.
Out of the sea our ancestors climbed
Onto primeval shores,
And ages later further inland
They crawled forth on all fours.
And over the many eons since
The trial and error went on
That every creature on this rock
May find where it belong.
The Earth, our home among the stars
The web of life here be,
Took eons to arrive at what
Today we smell and see.
