What is Classically Abby’s real reason for objecting to the actions of Naked Athena? Is it really just about the fact that she used nudity in her protest – or might the issue of what cause she is protesting for have something to do with it as well?
So that Leofric, the Earl of Mercia, would grant the townspeople relief from the heavy, onerous taxes – his own wife, the Lady Godiva, rode naked through the streets of Coventry, covered only by her long flowing hair.
Whether or not this legend is true – a lot of the history of nude protesting is in fact true. One of the most recent examples of it is a participant in Portland’s Black Lives Matter protests known as “Naked Athena”, who approached cops, sat down, and began practicing yoga, wearing nothing but a mask and a beanie.
However, not everyone is thrilled with the actions of Naked Athena. Specifically, Abby, the hostess of the “Classically Abby” YouTube channel has said that she is “not a fan” of such nude protesting.
Of course, I can’t read Abby’s mind – but I can’t help but wonder if the nudity itself is the real thing that Abby has a problem with about Naked Athena’s protest – or whether her beef with Naked Athena is really about something else entirely.
